Cards for all occassions
You must have noticed that there are some beautiful cards on display at the church. They can be found on top of the glass cabinet.
They have been made by our own Sunday morning regular Sylvia, who usually sits at the back of the church in front of the cabinet.
Can I pass on the thanks of the committee for your beautiful cards. We on the committee appreciate all the work that members do, as it helps the church doors remain open in these recession mad days.
Thank you Sylvia

I am off for a weekend of ,well don't know yet, but it is certainly going to be different as my experiences have shown me in the past.

Debra and Paul Rees
Paul and Debra will take the evening service at Park Grove tomorrow at 6pm. This will be their second time at the church, so come along and take an hour away from the hectic pressure of general life, you know it makes sense.
Bev Charles and Ruth Wakeling
Bev and Ruth will be with us tomorrow morning at 11am. We look forward to both their philosophy and survival evidence as they always give a good service.
KAY HARDING
Although yhere was a distraction with a little game of Rugby being played , at Park Grove the people who attended were given a good night.
Kay in her own style had laughter and tears in the messages she gave from the other side of life.
The people broke into spontaneous laughter in the last message (I cannot tell you because of the personal details), but it was whacky and that is all I will say.
Come back again soon Kay you will be very welcome.

Two good services again this week, Paul Challenger took the morning service with his usual mix of humor and straight talking. It was Pauls second visit to us and all went away smiling.
Can I thank Jeremy for doing the stewards work due to absenses. Thank you Jeremy.
Carol Ellis just back from a jaunt in Sweden and after taking a workshop all day Saturday was up to scratch and with the help of Spirit gave excellent philosophy and survival evidence.
A big thank you for Do Do who helped with the washing up afterwards as she always does.

Mystery of the missing Echo ad.
For those of you who looked in tonight's Echo to see who was at the church tonight and over the weekend, and could not find the advertisement, you are not suffering from a case of blindness, just a genuine lapse of memory on my part.
I must take full responsibility for the missing ad, reason , I forgot.
At least it shows that I am not perfect and make mistakes,(my wife Pat can verify that). One good thing is that I saved the church some money.
Here is the programme for the weekend:
Saturday Demonstration of Mediumship ----- Mr George Seaton,
Sunday 11am Divine Service ------ Mr Paul Challenger.
Sunday 6pm Divine Service ------- Mrs Carol Ellis
Allow me to apologize again for my slip-up.

The Second Principle
THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN
The second principle of Spiritualism covers a vast field of obligations and constitutes the essence of religion in practice.
Without this principle religion would be mere phrase-mongering. He that serves his neighbor serves God. There may be is no material advantage in serving your neighbor, but there is the blessing of the spirit.
In spiritualism it is proven that service is not unrewarded, and establishes beyond doubt that only by service can spiritual progress be made. This does not follow that service should be undertaken for the sake of personal spiritual advancement. On the contrary, it is essentially the spirit in which the service is given, one of pure unselfishness, which enhances the soul. In spiritualism also it is prove that spiritual qualities are the only permanent treasures of life.
In our daily lives, in our immediate contacts at work, home, school and play, we meet those who need help. They may need a material gift, a kindly word, advice, or sacrifice of time. We should give as we should hope to receive in similar circumstances. The spirit of such a gift of service should be the motive of sharing our advantages, material and spiritual, in an effort to increase our friends' participation in the good things of life. The benefit is mutual. Our friends are helped along the road of life and our spiritual statures are equally enhance. We cannot spread sunshine and escape it ourselves.
Our capacity to love and our knowledge of life are both developed to a higher stage of perfection which automatically increases our power to do good. In short we become more and more in harmony with the Supreme Spirit of all.
Great opportunities are given to all who serve social causes which exist to bring economic security, peace, charity and culture to the people.
The highest cause of all is the propagation of the truths of immortality, for this is the greatest spiritual blessing of the universe. To be ignorant of its truth, is to be blind to the real meaning of existence, and its eternal obligations.
The truths of spirit communication not only extend the bonds of brotherhood to the eternal spirit spheres but clearly indicate that we all belong to one great unity. Membership of this union depends upon our harmonious relationships with one another in universal brotherhood. Spiritualism gives a new and higher meaning to the principle of Brotherhood.

Spirit Caught on Camera
William Hope. U.K.
1863 - 7 March 1933.
In the twentieth century one of the most talked about British Spirit Photographers, was William Hope from Crewe, Cheshire, U.K., from the Crewe Circle, who found out that he was mediumistic and took his findings to the public. William used a plate camera of the time to take photographs of strangers. When the plates where developed, many times there would appear extras, which appeared to be the relatives and friends of the sitters.
Over time, William developed his link with the Spirit World by sitting in meditation, his mediumistic development started to grow as did his fame, which spread far and wide. The next thing he found was the fanatical Christians and skeptics started on him, accusing him of fraud. To counter this he took measures to silence them, but it never did any good as they had their usual blinkers on.
Whenever he could when doing the photographic sittings, he always made sure he had another person with him, a person he did not know.
The person who was having their photograph taken in what could only be called a seance like setting room, would be asked to bring their own photographic plates for his camera, which had to be factory sealed, signed or marked for the person to recognize as their own and unopened.
The guests and sitters would be asked to look over the equipment very carefully, the make up of this simple equipment was not very complicated, and the plates were fairly big in comparison to today's photographic equipment and film, so it was almost impossible to hide anything, the people there would not take long to examine it to their satisfaction but could take as long as they wished.
The sitters, and many times investigators [he had many of these trying to find a reason for the extras appearing on the new plates] when opening the factory sealed plates were asked to sign or initial their virgin plates, so they could recognize their own plates when the sittings were over.
William then asked them to personally place their own plates into the camera, and when finished, to take the plate out of the camera and take it into the darkroom [which was lit with red light, so everyone could see in there]. William and his sitters all stayed in the darkroom together so that it could be seen that NO fraud was taking place in the form of switching plates or adding anything into the developing process. He did everything possible to show he was not a person duping the public.
William Hopes Mediumship was such, he brought through on their personal photographic plates some animals who were the sitters pets, but most were of Spirit people extras, and over the years that ran into many hundreds of Spirit extras on the plates brought to him by strangers. The people who had their photographs taken by William Hope over time acknowledged that most of the extras on the plates were dead relatives and friends of themselves, the sitters, who were in the Spirit World. Those not recognized at the time, were later verified by living relatives and friends of the sitters.
Sometimes on the virgin photographic plates people brought with them, there appeared images of people who were still on the earth plane, but were not present at the time of the photographic session in the room, this is where the notion of thought-ography comes into play. On saying that it has been put forward as the over riding factor for some people, is that the images are caused by a sitter thinking of the person who appeared on the photographic plate whether alive or dead. In my opinion that does not take into consideration the FACT that images appeared of people the sitter was not thinking of at the time of the sitting. That being the case it must be that the people who appear on the virgin plate as an image must have some input to the process whether they are alive or across the veil remembering that thought is a living energy that can be proved, as shown in my book Meditation Oneness.
In one strange incident a lady Lillian Bailey went to see William Hope and sat for him. She received an image on her own photographic plate of what she at the time thought was a stranger, Lillian was wanting a photographic image of her mother in the Spirit World. It subsequently turned out to be a World War One soldier, William Hedley Wotton, who was Lillian's Spirit Guide. The image on the plate even shown with a darkened area, damage over his temple the bullet had done when it had hit him and killed him. Over the years she got confirmation off different Mediums that this was her Spirit Guide. Lillian went on to become a very well known and respected Medium.
Harry Price was sent to investigate Hope and all that was happening at the time BUT what should be taken into consideration is the fact that Harry Price was accused of helping Hope as he was a conjurer. It was said he had swapped the plates and not William Hope. At the time of the alleged fraud Price did not say anything until after he had gone home with the so called evidence, is it not possible that Harry Price had substituted the plates for his own. All the Spiritualist Newspapers of the time who had investigated William Hope before, found not a shred of evidence of any fraud, accused Harry Price of switching Hope's plates to discredit him and promote his books. .
William Hope was publicly praised for his mediumistic work by very prominent figures in the community of the time who attended sittings with Hope; people the likes of Arthur Conan Doyle, and Sir William Crookes who made sure of the conditions and thoroughly examined all the equipment before sitting and to make doubly sure they even had William Hope stand aside while they developed their own photographic plates, never allowing Hope to handle the plates at any stage.

Jan, Jill and Pam
Tonight at Park Grove saw the return of the bubbly Jan Lloyd. This time Jan came along with two of her budding prospects of her circle. Jill and Pam have only just started on their journey with Spirit and have to be commended how they managed their nerves this evening. Both gave evidence of survival and it was accepted by the receivers. So it is well done to Jill and well done to Pam.
Jan gave what you can only say was her usual chatty and very evidential demonstration, and good philosophy.
The church atmosphere seemed to me to be special today, and I would like to say a big thank you to those who have made it that way by coming to Park Grove both this morning and evening

The Spiritualist Religion
THE RELIGION OF SPIRITUALISM
Spiritualism is not as is commonly believed, a sinister cult meeting in darkened rooms to “call up the dead” but an officially recognised religious movement with its own churches and Ministers, who possess the same rights and privileges as other religions.
Proof of Survival
Spiritualism is in itself a religion in that it embodies the main ideas of all religions that there is a life after death, an immortality and the existence of a God. The difference between Spiritualism and other religions is the ability through mediumship to provide evidence that man survives the grave; that is to say certain people called mediums are able to communicate with those who have passed over, thus furnishing evidence of their continued existence in another world. Mediums cannot call up these people as one would a friend on the telephone, they come to us, but only when they are ready, willing and able so to do.
The philosophy of Spiritualism is based on seven fundamental principles.
1. The Fatherhood of God.
2. The Brotherhood of Man.
3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels.
4. The Continuous Existence of the human soul.
5. Personal Responsibility.
6. Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good or evil deeds done on earth.
7. Eternal Progress open to every human soul.
Not Anti-Christian
Spiritualists are often accused of being atheists or anti-Christian. Spiritualists are not anti-Christian any more than they are anti-Jewish, anti-Hindu or anti-Moslem. Spiritualism is a universal religion recognising such leaders as Buddha, Mohammed, Moses as well as Jesus. Another major difference between Spiritualism and the orthodox Christian religion is embodied in our fifth principle, which is Personal Responsibility. We do not accept that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. We hold that no one can do this but ourselves. We are given free will and the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and we alone are responsible for all our thoughts and actions.
God not Vindictive
Further, we do not believe in a vindictive God sitting in judgement over us. We are our own judges here and now and we shall receive compensation or retribution for whatever we have done, whether good or bad. Heaven and Hell are not places to which we are destined to go, but states of mind of our own creation.
We do not automatically become spiritual when we leave this world. We shall in fact, retain our earthly characteristics while the opportunity will be given throughout eternity to make spiritual progress and so undo any wrongs we committed on earth, for both free will and personal responsibility will still be with us in the world to come.
We are living in a material age in which orthodox religion has lost its impact. Any religion therefore which can successfully overcome this materialist influence must be scientific, and Spiritualism is just that. It has turned the pious hope of a hereafter into a scientific fact. The advent of the spirit of man into this world and in the course of time, his transition to another world is a scientific fact proved by mediumship.
We do not expect you to accept these things blindly but we do invite you to prove our claim for yourself.

Sharon Fry and Kim Rogers Show
Apologies to spirit for the headline but I am sure they will be fine about it. Good service apart from myself {chair person ) calling Sharon , Karen (twice) and sorely tempted to call Kim, Roy.
Very good philosophy and some good evidence given by these two lovely ladies. They know where they want to go and how to do it and with spirits help and encouragement they will succeed.
Also a big thank you to Ken Stephenson for taking the duties of the Steward in the absence of my wife Pat
