THIS IS THE CHAIR THAT THE GREAT PHYSICAL MEDIUM ALEX HARRIS SAT ON AT HIS SEANCES AT HIS HOME IN CARDIFF. IT WAS DONATED TO THE CHURCH BY HIS FAMILY, AND IS NOW USED BY THE GROVE PHYSICAL GROUP, WHO SIT FORTNIGHTLY AT THE CHURCH.

Contacting Your Spirit Guide

Our expectations on how spirit can contact us, can often be too high. Spirit existence can best be described as thought energy. So it makes sense form them to contact us through our own thoughts, but how do you tell the difference? The thoughts will sound like your own, but they may also be of better clarity, more structured and eloquent in delivery. If you can still your mind, as with meditation for example, you may be able to detect these thoughts better. Ask questions, but don't ask for predictions for your own life, and see what thoughts come to you. We also have to be patient sometimes, a lesson in itself. Spirit will be working with you, but on their understanding, not yours. They often wait for us to remove doubts, blockages and other distractions that may undermine the very work they strive to teach. If, through your meditation and perception, you sense to see someone in the distance, this is often a new guide waiting to join you, waiting for you to be ready. This could be a guide that will stay with you for the next forty years, one who through your mediumship will teach not only you, but many people through you. A guide who has waited for you since you were first born, how wonderful that is! Would you wait and be patient for such a guide? We are not saying that this is always the case, but just expressing an example of how to alter your thoughts, expectations and how to have patience. All things happen in their own time.

MEDIUMS SHOULD BE VEGETARIANS Silver Birch has previously expressed his opinion on the effect of vegetarianism on mediumship, and I asked him whether he would deal with the question more fully. “I know I will be unpopular with some,” he said. “But if I have to tread on corns, then I must. There can be no argument that, for the ideal medium, abstinence from alcoholic liquor, from flesh foods, from tobacco and from anything which degrades the human body is better for the developing spirit. The spirit can only express itself in your world through a physical body. The higher the quality of the physical body, the greater can be the expression of the spirit. Therefore, anything which coarsens that body, anything which gives it wrongful stimulation, is a hindrance and not a help to the spiritual body, of which the physical counterpart is its temple. “Now you can answer the question for yourself Can the flesh of animals, can the stimulation of tobacco and alcohol help the unfoldment of psychic and spiritual faculties that you possess? Of course they cannot. Naturally, if these things are done in moderation, they will do little harm. But for the ideal medium, it is better that he should confine himself to the fruits of the earth.” I then put a question that is often quoted by those who seek to justify the eating of animal foods: “Is it wrong to kill animals for food and clothes, when apparently it is nature’s way for animals to kill and eat each other?” “All these things are comparative and are all part of evolution,” said the guide. “We are told that Nature is red in tooth and claw. That is part of the evolution of Nature—and no spirit teacher has claimed that Nature has reached perfection, for Nature is still evolving. In the ideal—and I always answer what the ideal should be—it is wrong to kill for your food, for your clothing or for your shelter. But in an undeveloped world the full ideal cannot always be realised, but that is no reason why there should not be a striving towards the ideal, which is perfection. “If there must be killing, let it be painless. Abolish the cruelty. If you cannot in one step reach the stage where mankind knows that to kill for food is wrong, then make the killing as painless as you can. You are in a changing world and we are preaching ideals, ideals that we know are not possible of immediate attainment. But we should be failing in our mission as teachers if we did not give you an ideal to strive for. Clair-audience

Clair-audience or Clear Hearing - Hearing the voices of spirit people. Clair-audience is the mediums gift of hearing spirit voices. Remembering of course that this is still an interpretation. The Medium for example, hears a voice in their ear, (but it is also possible to hear a thought,) they then tell the person who is being read, the recipient, what has been said. The medium is able to detect accents, age, tone and speed.

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance or Clear Seeing - A vision in the mind in picture form. The dictionary gives the following description of Clairvoyance: 1. The supposed power to perceive things that are out of the natural range of human senses, attributed to certain individuals. 2. Acute intuitive perceptiveness. I can only say that there is no supposed about it. Mediums are able to adjust their minds to a state of reception whereby they are able to see, sense and hear things far beyond the audible range of the normal human being. Clairvoyance is the ability of being able to see pictures, places, objects and colours sent from the spirit world. It is this particular gift that allows the spirit, through the medium, to describe things to those they wish to communicate with. This also includes symbolism. Images, which are in fact visual clues from the communicating spirit.

Clair-sentience

Clair-sentience or Feeling - The ability to sense feelings. Clair-sentience is the art of being able to sense feelings and impressions from spirit, especially of letting the mediums know how they passed. For example; they may sense a painful sensation around the heart area to show a heart attack. Pressure or breathing difficulty to the chest to show a lung or breathing problem, even joint pains can often be felt. They can also include how the spirit person felt, emotions like euphoria, fear, panic or well-being can be interpreted. Under this category, i think we can also include what some call as Claioma, smell, scents that are associated with people in spirit. Spirit will quite often place a smell about the medium which could be associated with their place of work, their favourite perfumes or even their favourite flower. All which help to establish identity.
