Sunday morning

Well, this morning in the church was an exhilarating experience. The workers Anne and Tony Turner, gave what you can only describe as an exciting performance,and in front so few people. They carried on regardless, and with the help of Spirit gave good philosophy and excellent survival evidence.

SPIRITUALISM HISTORY

On March 31, 1848 two young girls went to bed early in the family cottage in Hydesville, New York. Rapping had been occurring for the past few weeks in the house, and the Fox family was exhausted. This evening was no different, except this time Katie, the youngest, jumped out of bed and clapped her hands a few times. The raps answered back the same number of times. The girls played this way, then their mother decided to carry this further. She asked the rapper how many children she had. The raps came back correctly, including one child who had died. Then she asked the ages, and again the responses were right. Neighbors came and had similar experiences. Eventually, they discovered that the rapper was the spirit of a peddler named Charles B. Rosna, and that he had been murdered for his goods, worth about $500. He said a previous tenant of the cottage had done it, and buried him in the cellar. Digging in the cellar at a later time uncovered bones, hair, and a peddler's tin cup.

The discovery that it was possible to communicate with spirits, or those who had died, was the beginning of modern American Spiritualism. The rappings encouraged the sisters to begin public meetings, saying their work had only begun. Communications and manifestations came rapidly, and were more orderly. Katie and Maggie were joined by their older sister Leah, and in November 1849 they gave their first public demonstration in the largest hall in Rochester, New York. Interest in the phenomenon spread rapidly, and many celebrities came to see them and to receive messages from the spirit world. Horace Greeley, editor of the New York Tribune, was one of their early supporters.

The Fox sisters continued their demonstrations until the early 1890s in spite of being accused of fraud, trickery, ventriloquism, and cracking their joints. They were studied by eminent scientists, but were also subjected to humiliating experiences by investigators. Both Maggie and Katie had extensive personal and financial problems, and became alcoholic. At one point Maggie denounced Spiritualism, and said the raps were produced by cracking the knee joints. A year later, however, she retracted this and blamed her personal situation and the influence of those who did not believe in spiritualistic phenomena. Katie died in 1892, and Maggie followed a year later, just before the first meeting of the National Spiritualist Association.

The Fox sisters' mediumship was the beginning of a widespread interest in Spiritualism and its phenomena. According to Lindgren (1994), there were more than ten million followers of Spiritualism in the latter half of the 1800s. The number of physical and mental mediums continued to grow, in England as well as the United States. Physical mediums produced a variety of phenomena, for example:

- teleportation - the moving of an object for one place to another

- apports - the producing of an object out of thin air

- levitation - the rising of an object, such as a table, or a person

- rappings - such as those heard by the Fox sisters

- automatic writing and painting - written messages or works of art produced by the writer or artist simply holding a pen or brush

- materialization - the method by which a substance called ectoplasm is produced from a medium and then forms into a recognizable spirit.

The most famous physical medium was Daniel D. Home (1833-1886). His manifestations included levitating massive tables, the playing of an accordion in a wire cage with no visible hands, teleportation, and levitating himself out of a third story window, and back in another window. He was studied extensively by scientists of the time, most notably Sir William Crookes. Although physical mediumship can be, and often was, fraudulent, Home was never found to be so.

There were thousands of people practicing mental mediumship in the late 1800s. Mental mediums communicated with the spirit world usually by holding seances. Unlike Home, whose manifestations were produced in daylight, most mental mediums performed in darkened conditions. Messages were given, through the medium, from those in the spirit world to those present. Many people were absolutely convinced of their authenticity, and felt that information was given that was unkown to anyone but themselves. Again, there was opportunity for fraud, but many investigated mediums were found to be genuine.

Spiritualists, convinced that there is indeed life after death, were prominent in social reform movements of the time. Braude (1989) parallels the Spiritualist movement with that of women's rights. She credits the mediums who spoke in public, an activity previously open only to men, with paving the way for the speakers of the women's suffrage movement. Spiritualists were also active in children's rights, health and labor reforms, religious freedom, and the abolition of slavery. In fact, Abraham Lincoln admitted that he was led to sign the emancipation proclamation under the guidance of spirit through the mediumship of Nellie Maynard. (Grumbine, 1917).

Spiritualism as a movement began to decline in the early 1900s, especially in the United States.

Cannot believe that the days have gone so fast. The healers are waiting ready for you to arrive . The sessions are 1pm till 2 pm and 7pm till 8pm.
Glad to hear that the dog who has healing has improved so much since it has been coming in the evening session.

Meditation Group

Come along to what is becoming a very popular event. It is growing in the attendance
every other week.
It is a great way to develop any talent you may have spiritually, so join us only £2 for a couple of hours spent with like minds.

Sunday Evening Service

Emma Cole, another young new worker showed this evening just how far she progressed with her work with Spirit. She showed confidence and a maturity in her address and accuracy and humour in her evidence of survival.
Thank you Emma for your work at the church tonight it was very enjoyable.

Sunday Morning

Sharon Fry and Kim(Roy)Rogers were the workers this morning. They have only started on their journey with Spirit and it looks as if they will be doing this work for a long time. They both looked confident,but believe me the Park Grove rostrum is a daunting
place to stand and give an address and provide evidence of survival.
Both things were done to the best they could, with a complete trust in Spirit to show them the way.
Well done Sharon and a special well done to Kim as it was the first address she had ever given. Their work was appreciated by a congregation of 14 people.
Thanks to Ceri who gave Phil a copy of music by Muriel to play between the address and clairvoyance parts of the service, so as to change the vibrations

Hymns criticised at the service

Criticism re the hymns that were chosen this morning were aimed at the chairperson Phil Spillane. He tried to point out that he did not sing them only picked them.
He was accused of picking mourning songs.
In his defense he said he did pick them but they were morning songs as opposed to mourning songs. That's his excuse and he says he is sticking to it.

I wont mention any names, but Chris Corsi you will be picking them next week.!!!!!!!!

Demonstration Of Mediumship

There is no demonstration tonight 21st March because of the parking problems which will be caused by the Rugby International.
Park Grove would like to apologize for this inconvenience and remind you all that it will be all back to normal for next Saturdays Demonstration.

The Sunday services 22nd March are not affected and will be waiting for you at both services, 11am and 6pm.

Sunday has been renamed Djordjevitch Day, at Park Grove Church any way. After taking the demonstration this evening Andrej is back to do both services on Sunday.
Glutton for punishment our Andrej, but we like him.

Open Circle tonight

Just as you thought it was safe to go back to the open circle you learn that the DREADED Gaynor will be taking it this evening. Do not let her crutches put you off, as Cath Kelly will keep her in order, or try to.
The only other way to miss out on her vengeance is to behave and dont get her angry or wind her up. Yes that means you Heidi Reis and you Jane Best.

You all know that I am only joking ,or am I ? Seriously Gaynor is a lovely Lady and would love to see you at the Open Circle tonight. She wants you all to come so she can guide you in the right direction.

COMMUNION OF SPIRITS & THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS

The Communion of Spirits, is often considered to be the key principle of Spiritualism. It brings out, in sharp contrast, the basic difference between materialism and spiritualism as a philosophy and between Christianity and Spiritualism as a religion, because of our claim to hold communion with departed spirits. Our demonstrations of proved survival have transformed philosophy from a theory into a reality and religion from a creed into a living experience.

We have now proved, consistently and continuously, for a period of over one hundred years, that those who die in this material world continue their life without interruption in another world, another dimension, which intermingles with our own. Not only do they return to communicate with us, and so prove their survival, but they may spend a considerable part of their time helping and guiding us in our earthly problems. We too are essentially spirit, and that vital part of us, which we call the subconscious, is sensitive to spirit influence. Many of us, therefore, although not conscious of the influence of spirit, are nevertheless spirit guided. The spirit inspired mental impressions received by the subconscious will filter through to the conscious level and influence, in varying degrees, the thoughts and actions of the recipients.

In certain individuals, who are called sensitive, there is a close relationship between the conscious and subconscious levels to such an extent that they are more directly aware, through the extra-sensory perceptive faculties of their spirit body, of the 'finer vibrations' - the different frequency of spirit thought and form, thus making it possible for them to communicate with the spirit people.

Our communication brings us precious and vital knowledge of our immortal natures and eternal destiny. In our communications we learn that those who have passed on have not changed, except in the physical vehicle through which they express themselves. Their interests and desires, loves and hates, wisdom and stupidity remain identical the moment after final separation from the body has been effected. New laws of a new world however have to be learned. New problems, trials and joys await the unfoldment of their spirits. This realization helps us to understand the continuity and evolutionary aspects of all life and which practical expression leads us to draw ever nearer towards complete unity. It teaches us to serve in harmony with the Supreme Spirit which expresses itself in us and gives us life. No religion has ever revealed such a clear relationship between our individual lives and their divine source

Well not long now until I leave the warm house for the cold outside to make my way to a very warm place, Park Grove. Jackie Brown and her husband George will be taking the service along side the Chairman Jack Wynn Williams,( with a name tag ) maybe not. I did my stint this morning, so I will be stewarding.

Sunday Service

Another excellent service by medium Val Croot. 23 people heard an address which certainly did not lave things to the imagination. In her ususl straight to the point style she spoke clearly and it was obvious that all were listening to her every word.
The demonstration of survival was again of a high standard with good evidence given. Val will openly tell you that she does not like this part of the service, but that does not stop Spirit from working with her.

The elusive Gail Osbourne turned up at park Grove tonight. The recession has not affected us here at the church as we were able to have a BOGOF night. Good value for £3. Good to know that Gail is well and is working like old.

The morning 11am service brings Val Croot once again and this is followed at the 6pm service with workers Jacquie qnd George Brown. This couple have been to the church before and we look forward to the service.
After the service you are welcome to stay for coffee, tea, biscuits and of course a good gossip.

So come along to have a grat time in good company with people with like minds.

Demonstration Of Mediumship

Tonight anything can happen. Why you may ask. Well the worker is a lady who is always herself and never fails to entertain.
She has stepped in tonight as a replacement for the original worker , and did not even have to be asked. As soon as she heard, she was straight in with a 'I will do it'. So tonight, come along to see Val Croot, ( she hates to be called Valerie). Only £3 admission and your fairly certain of a good time.

Going so fast

Where is the time going? The week seems to fly by when you are having fun, but not good when you have so much to do.
I should be tidying up the sign that faces the railway ,but just dont seem to have enough time to do it . I will make a conscious effort to sort it before the AGM.

All you members be aware that this is on the 27th April and starts at 7pm. Remember you need to be a member to be eligible to vote so renew those meberships people , it is so important for the church.

Sunday morning

It is 10=10am and I am ready to meet all who is coming to the morning service. Lloyd our steward is not here ,and that is unusual for him (hope all is OK.) It is good to be back at the church after a weekend away, My 'significant other' Pat is still not 100% but hopes to make it for round 2 this evening.
