Can I on behalf of our members wish you all a prospereous new year

Gordon Higginson
Gordon was trained from a very early age to be a platform medium and to demonstrate at large venues in front of capacity crowds. His mother paid for him to have elocution lessons and he commenced working in public at the youthful age of 12. He was known as the "the boy wonder" in his early years and he continued to demonstrate his gift of mental mediumship on the platform for another 63 years until the day before he passed to spirit. Gordon was renowned for the accuracy of his platform mediumship and his evidence often included full names, addresses and telephone numbers. Gordon was a master of his craft and would often set up several links amongst a large audience and work the links simultaneously. Gordon worked with many of the well known mediums from yesteryear including Estelle Roberts, Helen Hughes, Bertha Harris and Nan Mackenzie and he demonstrated at many of the largest venues in the UK including the Royal Albert Hall on many occasions. Some videos of Gordon demonstrating can be found on the “Video Recordings” page.
Gordon was also a fine and eloquent speaker and his addresses contained his trademark style and charisma. His addresses also demonstrated his love and passion for the spirit and a video recording with part of an address can be found on the “Video Recordings” page.
Gordon was a fine trance medium and many have witnessed the various guides and mentors who worked with Gordon. His prinicipal guide Choo Chow provided spiritual words of wisdom, whilst his childhood friend Cuckoo and his Irish guide Paddy provided gentle fun and humour, as well as Paddy providing clairvoyance in the trance state. Gordon also had another guide called Light who would make predictions and who only come through once per year usually during the trance address at the Christmas morning service at Longton church. It is hoped that audio recordings of all of the above guides will be uploaded on the “Audio Recordings” page over the coming months.
Gordon was also an excellent physical medium and produced a wide range of physical phenomena including materialisation, transfiguration, independent voice and apports. He regularly demonstrated his physical mediumship in the Library at the Arthur Findlay College to large audiences of 90 or so people. Despite receiving several injuries over the years due to inappropriate acts from sitters, he was not deterred and continued to demonstrate in public. Because of his desire that this remarkable form of mediumship be shared with the public, perhaps more people have been able to witness physical mediumship with Gordon than with any other medium. Gordon is also one of the few physical mediums to demonstrate physical mediumship publicly to an audience of 300 people at the Glasgow Association of Spiritualists. Despite his results, this was one area of his mediumship where Gordon felt there was room for improvement since he felt that he could have achieved better results were he able to sit more regularly.
Although well known for his platform work and physical séances, Gordon was also an accomplished spiritual healer. Together with his healing guide Dr John, Gordon was able to diagnose and provide healing for a wide range of ailments. Up until the time of his passing in 1993, queues regularly formed outside Longton Spiritualist Church when he was holding spiritual healing sessions. In addition, Gordon practised spiritual healing on animals and vets supported claims of a number of miracle cures with cases where all hope appeared lost

History of the Spiritualist National Union History - Modern Spiritualism
A family who moved to a homestead in Hydesville, New York State, USA were disturbed by noises, knockings, movements of objects and other unusual phenomena.
The two children Catherine and Margaretta discovered that if they spoke out then the mysterious noises seemed to respond and it became clear that the phenomena were not just random manifestations of energy but were under the control of some invisible intelligence. In a world where such happenings were feared and where religion labelled them as evil, these happenings soon gained the attention of neighbours and family friends. The news of these happenings spread far and wide, at times many bystanders came to marvel at the unexplained knockings and noises.
On March 31, 1848, the two sisters, Margaretta and Catherine Fox, established intelligent, two way communication with a spirit person who was responsible for producing the phenomena.
Farmstead of the Fox Family
A committee of investigation was formed and communicated with the spirit who had been harassing the Fox family. The committee listened out for the response signal knocks and they established that the communicator was Charles Rosna, who had been murdered and buried beneath the cellar of the homestead. An excavation of the cellar later proved that there was indeed the remains of a body buried there.
The publicity which these events aroused and the investigations carried out at the time led to mediumship being discussed openly. The Fox family suffered scorn, ridicule, and persecution but because of them advice came from spirit people as to how to encourage spirit communication. The printing press, cheaper newspapers and books, the improved literacy amongst the people, the rail road and improved postal service meant that many learned about this new spiritual phenomena and how it could be achieved. In many homes, groups of people met and, following the advice, were successful in obtaining spirit communication for themselves. And, once communication was established, the spirit people could direct the process and give specific guidance to further help the process.
It became clear that certain people were naturally mediumistic and the new forms of communication enabled strikingly accurate and detailed information to be communicated. Spiritual phenomena flowed from the many Spiritualist groups which provided, time after time, personal joyful evidence confirming the existence of a spirit world that could communicate with those still on earth. In just a few years many groups of Spiritualists formed in America to seek psychic phenomena and to consider the religious implications which lay behind the teaching received from spirit.
In time, both the phenomena and the teachings attracted the attention of eminent scientists and intellectuals in America and Britain. A Mrs Hayden brought the new knowledge to England and openly demonstrated mediumship here. She was persecuted and insulted by the press and by some in the established Christian church, however her mediumship was defended by public figures, such as Robert Owen, who embraced Spiritualism after witnessing successful spirit communications with her.
In 1853 the first Spiritualist Church was established in the Britain at Keighley in Yorkshire, and the first Spiritualist newspaper, The Yorkshire Spiritual Telegraph, was published in 1855. By the 1870s there were numerous Spiritualist societies and churches throughout the country.
Today, Spiritualism allows all people to witness, and learn for themselves, communication with the spirit world. Before, information about such practices was banned and considered dangerous and evil. However, by the events at Hydesville, ignorance and fear concerning the spirit world is passing away and all people can benefit from the love, guidance, and wisdom from those who have gone before who are now progressing in the spirit world

The Seven Principles Explained
2. The Brotherhood of Man.
3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels.
4. The Continuous Existence of the human soul.
5. Personal Responsibility.
6. Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth.
7. Eternal Progress open to every human soul. The Principles were not intended to be binding rules or the basis of a dogma but to provide a moral and ethical framework upon which people can base their lives.
1. The Fatherhood of God.
The core belief of the religious philosophy of Spiritualism is the acceptance of a Divine Energy. This force, whatever name given to it, has created all there is and sustains all its creation.
The ‘Spirit of God’ exists within and around everything. It is within all of us: we are all children of God so are part of one family. We acknowledge God as our Father.
2. The Brotherhood of Man.
We are all part of the universal creative force and therefore one family in God. The operation of true Brotherhood throughout the word would create betterment to the lives of many, bringing equality, security and peace. Spiritualists try to understand the needs of others and help all people regardless of race, colour or creed
3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels.
Communion with divine energy is a natural and essential part of existence. Communication between Spirit itself and its creations is an inbuilt ability. Spiritualists use this ability for communication directly, or via a medium, between those in the spirit world and ourselves. This is not supernatural; it is a normal activity. The main purpose of communication with the spirit world is to provide the evidence which supports our philosophy. The Ministry of Angels brings enhanced wisdom to enlighten the individual, society and the world in which we live. This includes those who are dedicated to the welfare and service of mankind bringing inspiration guidance and healing.
4. The Continuous Existence of the human soul.
Spirit is part of the ‘Creative Force’ and thus indestructible. Energy cannot be destroyed; it can only change its form. After death the physical body is left behind whilst the soul continues to exist in a different dimension that we call the spirit world. The individual personality continues unchanged by the event we call ‘death’.
5. Personal Responsibility.
In His wisdom, God has given us enormous potential; we can use that potential to improve our own lives and the lives of others. We have the ability to make decisions throughout our lives as we see fit. What each of us makes of our life is our Personal Responsibility no one can replace or override that right. No other person or influence can put right our wrong doings.
6. Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth.
This Principle expresses the natural law of ‘cause and effect’. This law operates now, on earth, as well as in the spirit world. As we move through life making choices, the outcome of those choices affects our soul growth. When we leave this earthly life there will be no divine judgement. We will have the opportunity to reassess, take stock and decide what might have been done differently.
7. Eternal Progress open to every human soul.
Eternity does not begin at death; Progress is open to all now! Any action, or intent to change, to promote soul growth and progression, creates a positive reaction. There will always be the opportunity to develop and move forward, no one is ever deprived of the all embracing love of God.

SNU Spiritualism
Spiritualism is a science because it is based upon proven facts that can be demonstrated and scientifically classified. Spiritualism is the science of life as it encourages the search for truth in every department of existence, in nature and in human psychology.
Spiritualism is a philosophy that attempts to understand people, their physical, intellectual, moral, and spiritual being. As Spirit is the moving force of the Universe, so Spiritualist philosophy embraces the whole realm of nature.

Half-Yearly Meeting
Global Oneness Day
"Peace efforts will continue to fail until people embrace humanity’s Oneness" veteran U.N. envoy Anwarul K. Chowdhury, the leading emissary of the U.N. Culture of Peace initiative said on May 20th 2010, when receiving a worldwide appeal to the world body to declare an annual Global Oneness Day recognizing humanity’s inner unity, originally conceived by Humanity’s Team.
Chowdhury encouraged Humanity’s Team, who delivered the petition to the United Nations and sees Oneness as embracing God and all of life, to work together with other groups to declare a Global Oneness Day, even before the United Nations takes action.
These practical demonstrations of Oneness will give people tangible, experiential proof that living in Oneness works. This will, in turn, encourage us all to expand our hopes, beliefs and behaviors so that, a generation from now, humanity will finally realize a dream it has had since time immemorial of a world living in peace, harmony and happiness.
Everything you need to participate in the first ever Global Oneness Day can be found in the sub-menus of Global Oneness Day on this site. Humanitys team have also partnered with supporters across the world to make this day, this declaration of Oneness, indeed Global... Click here for Global Events

Healing
What Is Spiritual Healing
In this page we explain what Spiritual Healing is, how it is administered, and what you may or may not experience, so that you know what to expect at a Healing session, and afterwards.Spiritual Healing is complementary to orthodox medicine; it must not be considered as an alternative. When you are unwell, you need to get assistance from the doctor. If you receive Spiritual Healing, this will complement your treatment, the two will work together to assist in your recovery.
When we mention Healing of any sort, many people think immediately of making a person well due to a physical problem. This is true in part, but it is not the whole picture.
When we mention “Spiritual”, many people immediately think of religion. With Spiritual Healing, this is not so. The Spiritual nature of mankind is all of those parts that are non – physical such as mind, emotions and the “life force”. Spiritual Healing can be administered to a person of any religious denomination or none at all. Religion and Faith take no part in a Spiritual Healing session and will not be discussed with you. Remember that the purpose of your visit is to receive Spiritual Healing, if you have a question, the Spiritual Healer will gladly answer it, but being brief may be necessary
.
When Spiritual Healing is administered, it can assist a person on any or all of those levels of self, thus treating the whole person.
No faith is required, that is true. Spiritual Healing is administered to babies, young children and animals. It is perhaps an obvious statement to make, that they are not going to know about faith, yet they can benefit from the Healing. Nothing is expected from the patient, except perhaps openness to what may happen, and a degree of trust in the Healer. An acceptance for the need for change and the will to do so will also help.
It may surprise you to know that the patient has a great influence on the level of recovery because it is the patient’s positive attitude in wanting to feel well again that works with both medical treatment and Spiritual Healing.
When attending for Spiritual Healing, you will be asked
- if you want to remove an “outside” coat and hat for your comfort,
- to remove your spectacles, if you wear them,
- to remove or switch off a hearing aid, if you use one,
- to sit on a chair or lay on a couch, wheelchair users can be treated where they are.
When you receive Spiritual Healing it will be explained to you how the Healer will work with you. Having explained the procedure for working and asked if you feel comfortable, the Spiritual Healer will ask you if you wish to continue. With your agreement, the session will continue.
The Healer, with your permission, will place their hands on you, this is “contact healing”, or may work with their hands close to you but not touching, this is “near to the body healing”. Both work equally well, but each Healer has their own way of working. Healers are aware of where they may and may not place their hands, in respect to “sensitive areas”, they work to a Code of Conduct issued by their organisation to which they must adhere – it is compulsory.
The duration of the healing session varies from person to person, and is usually between ten and twenty minutes. During the healing session, you will be asked to relax and quieten your mind; you may close your eyes to assist this process. As healing proceeds, you may feel a little warmer, a little cooler, or no change at all – just relax and enjoy the session. Equally, don’t try to detect what is happening, just RELAX.
The Spiritual Healer will complete a record card each time you visit. It is strictly confidential, however, you are allowed to see your record card.
In accordance with “NHS Choices”, your Doctor has the right to refer you for Spiritual Healing if he feels it would be beneficial. You also have the right to request Spiritual Healing.
The Healer will always encourage you to remain in touch with your Doctor. As previously mentioned, Spiritual Healing is complementary to medical treatment, so do tell your Doctor of any benefits that you may feel.
The Doctor will always remain in control of your medical care.
Please ask if there will be any cost for additional sessions. Depending on where these are held, and whether they are on a private appointment basis or arranged by a Spiritual Healing organisation may influence the cost, it may also be free.
We hope that your Spiritual Healing sessions are a pleasant experience for you, and that you will receive some benefit from them.

The Seven Principles
Philosophy - The Seven Principles
Introduction:
1. The Fatherhood of God.

Gordon Higginson
Gordon's birth was pre-ordained by Spirit when his mother was just 14 years old and she was given a remarkable message at Longton Spiriualist Church. The medium told Fanny Higginson that since leaving home and coming to the church, her mother had passed to spirit and that Fanny would herself serve as a medium, as would her son, and together their name would be linked with Longton church for over 100 years. Fanny remained a medium at Longton church for 70 years until her passing in 1978.
Her son, Gordon Mons Higginson was born on 17th November 1918 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. He began developing his spiritual gifts at a very early age under the careful supervision of his mother Fanny, who was also an excellent medium. Gordon began sitting in his mother's circle from the tender age of 3 but was only permitted to pass on spirit communications to other members of the circle when he was 10 years old. He first publicly demonstrated his mediumship at Longton Spiritualist Church on his twelfth birthday at which point he embarked on his career as a medium known as the "the boy wonder". He continued to work the platform for another 63 years until the day before he passed to spirit.
Gordon was renowned for the accuracy of his platform mediumship and his evidence often included full names, addresses and telephone numbers. Gordon was also an excellent physical medium and produced the rare phenomena of materialization and direct voice. He was one of the few physical mediums to demonstrate these unique and precious gifts publicly to audiences of up to 300 people.
Gordon was appointed as the President of Longton Spiritualist Church in 1946 at the young age of 28 and he continued to hold this position for the next 47 years until his passing. Longton remained his spiritual home throughout his life and, together with his mother, the prophecy of 100 years of combined service to the church as mediums came true.
Gordon became President of the Spiritualist's National Union (SNU) in 1970 at a time when the Union was in severe financial difficulties and had been given less than two years to survive. In addition, the crippling debt owing on Stansted Hall meant that the Union had no option but to sell it unless a miracle could be performed. Under Gordon's energetic and determined Presidency, the Union was saved from bankruptcy and the debt owed by Stansted Hall was cleared. We have so much to thank Gordon for in saving the SNU and the Arthur Findlay College and preserving them for future generations.
Gordon remains the longest serving President of the Spiritualists National Union, serving for an exceptional 23 years from 1970 until his passing in 1993. He was also a Minister of the SNU and officiated at many namings, weddings and funerals.
Gordon had a detailed understanding of mediumship and he was a fine teacher, much in demand across the country. He taught on the very first Summer School at the Arthur Findlay College at Stansted Hall in 1965 and continued to teach there for a period of 28 years. Gordon was the Principal of the College from 1979 to 1993. Stansted Hall was always very dear to his heart and a place where many came from far and wide to hear his lectures and see his demonstrations, and for a special few to witness his demonstrations of physical mediumship in the college Library.
Above all else, Gordon was a dedicated spiritualist, an outstanding servant of the Spirit and devoted his entire life to the movement. He routinely traveled the length and breadth of the country demonstrating his wonderful gifts of mediumship as well as undertaking presidential engagements. He gave so much of himself and expected such little in return since he did not even charge fees for his spiritual work. His unrelenting workload often affected his health and in one year he undertook some 300 large publicity meetings. Few have worked so tirelessly in promoting Spiritualism.
Gordon suffered a couple of strokes during 1990 following the SNU Centenary celebrations at Wembley. Following his strokes, he feared he had lost his remarkable gift of mediumship but he did recover and continued his unrelenting work for spirit until the day before his passing. He took his transition to spirit at his home on 18th January 1993 after returning home from serving Blackpool Spiritualist Church, one of his favourite churches.
Gordon Higginson was not only an exceptional medium and teacher, but a man of great warmth, humour and charisma and he is still very much missed by many today despite it being some 16 years since his passing. Men of his spiritual stature and charisma are few and far between and we are only graced with a few every century.
